Professional Counselling

Elaine Finlay is a professional councellor, who is based at Peacocks shop in Newcastle. She is bound by the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy

Why might i need councelling?

There are many times when the things that happen in life can cause us problems. We can suddenly be faced with a crisis; we are bereaved; things can happen that remind us of past problems and grievances; or things can slowly build up until we feel overloaded.

Sharing thoughts and feelings can be tremendously helpful, but sometimes we can’t do that with those nearest to us.

Perhaps we don’t have close friends or family to talk to; perhaps they are the very people that are causing us problems; perhaps we want to talk about things or express views that we feel would distress them or that they wouldn’t understand; or perhaps we are ashamed of our thoughts or past circumstances.

Counsellors provide a calm, trusting environment in which issues can be explored and feelings expressed.

We are people unconnected with your life with whom you can talk about your fears, anxieties, experiences and needs without being judged.

You can talk about how things are for you now, things that happened in the past, or that might happen in the future. The content of each session is up to you, we will not direct you to talk about any specific issue.

By working in this person-centred way, we can help you to come to terms with your current situation, find your own solutions, and be more accepting of yourself and your feelings.
